Mission: ARYL 1X06: For Peaceful Purposes
Timeline: SD8984.1 (3 November 2290, 2000 hours)

Captain’s Log, Stardate 8984.1. We’ve briefly rendezvoused with the USS Orsina, to take aboard the new Yeoman that Starfleet Command has assigned us.

It had been a long day on the bridge, followed by a long date in the office. A break to stretch her legs was warranted, so T’Kal decided to be the one to greet her new staff member in Transporter Room 1.

Already present were the Transporter Chief on duty, as well as Senior Chief Summers, ship’s quartermaster. “Good evening, nya, Captain,” she said.

T’Kal nodded politely before turning to the man at the console. “Report.”

“Ready to transport, Captain,” reported the Chief.

“Energize.”

The transporter beam materialised an Andorian Petty Officer, her white hair carefully styled. She wore her uniform well, clean and neat, one bag over her shoulder. She blinked her eyes for a moment as she adjusted her eyes to the light of the transporter room. She then straightened when she saw the Vulcan Captain. "Permission to come onboard, Captain T'Kal?" With one smooth moment the strap of the bag slid off her shoulder and she straightened her back. She had not expected to be greeted by the Captain herself.

“Granted,” T’Kal said. “Welcome aboard, Ms. Tharos. Chief Summers will take your bag to your quarters, if you could give it to her. I would like to discuss your duties immediately.”

C’Hira stepped forward and reached her hand out for Kevra’s shoulder bag. “Mew’ll be on Deck Five, nya. Section four, cabin seven-delta. It’s a junior officer room, nya. I’ll bring you there when your meeting is over, nya.”

"Thank you," Kevra picked up the bag and offered it over, bowing her head to her before she stepped down and to the Captain. "Reporting for duty, Captain," she said, a small smile coming to her. Her antennae had stilled, focused on the Vulcan as much as the rest of her.

“Very good,” T’Kal said. “This way.” She led her new Yeoman to the turbolift in silence, traveled up one deck, and walked into the complex where T’Kal kept her office.

“This will be your work space,” she explained. “I have previously not had a dedicated Yeoman, only a rotating department of administrative officers. I am…pleased,” she nodded having found the right word, “to have been assigned someone for the role. But tell me, what do you see as being your responsibilities as my personal Yeoman?”

Kevra took a moment before answering, not because she was uncertain but because she wanted to give the question the consideration it deserved. One antenna tilted slightly towards T'Kal while the other remained forward. "Keeping you organised, Captain," she said, her expression serious. "Your schedule, correspondence, briefings, appointments...and making sure that nothing is on your desk that doesn't need to be there. Making sure you have the information you need before a meeting rather than halfway through it, and making sure other people know what you need from them." She paused, her expression becoming a little more thoughtful as she tilted her head. "My job isn't to make decisions for you, Captain. It's to make sure you have the time and information to make them." Her antennae shifted fractionally before she added, with just a little warmth, "And occasionally to remind you to eat, drink and get some sleep...unless we're at red alert."

T’Kal nodded as she listened. “Then we are broadly in agreement,” she said. “I will make a point to highlight my preferences to you as they come up, assuming they are not obvious. What specific reports I wish to always see at the top of the pile. Correspondence from whom should always go at the bottom.”

The Captain gestured to the reception area in which they stood. “You will also be responsible for hosting the morning meeting. It used to be daily but we found it more effective when kept to Monday and Thursday. It is a meeting for me and for critical administrative personnel, including you, Chief Summers, Ensign Larose, and a few others, depending on the agenda.”

Kevra gave a small nod, making a mental note of it...and it look up those personnel files. "Yes, Captain," she said, glancing around to take it in. She assumed she'd be in charge of the distribution of the agenda, and inferring from the Captain and others what they wanted on it.

"Otherwise, I assume we will find the best way to work as we go," T'Kal noted. "Any questions for me before I dismiss you to get settled in?"

Kevra considered the question for a moment, her antennae shifting slightly as she looked back at T'Kal. She had spent some of the time before the rendezvous going over the Ark Royal's administrative structure and the personnel she would be working alongside. "Just one, Captain. Mister Wajda," she said. "I understand he's been overseeing the administrative staff until now. I'd rather not spend my first week duplicating his work, or getting in his way. How would you like us to divide things between us?"

“He will report to you,” T’Kal explained. “His senior role was temporary until we found someone permanent. I’ll be recommending him for more advanced yeoman training for placement somewhere soon. He knows you were coming and has been instructed to prepare handover. After that, his role will be limited to manning that desk or the one in Commander Novis’s office.”

She gave a nod, making a mental note of that. "Thank you for clarifying," she said, because it made it clearer for her. She met her Captain's eyes, holding them. "I prefer straight forward talk. If there is at any point you want me to change how I work, please tell me."

T’Kal raised an eyebrow. “I will not hesitate. And if you require anything to ensure your duties are performed smoothly, you will advise me immediately. Straightforward talk, as you say.” She took a deep breath. “Go get yourself settled in, and then begin working with Mister Wajda in the morning. Your first assignment will be to plan a senior staff meeting for two days from now, in the morning. He has the details. Dismissed, Yeoman. And again, welcome aboard.”

Kevra bowed her head in greeting, taking in the information. "Thank you, Captain," she said before she turned and walked away, making a mental note to seek out Wajda sooner rather than later. Setting up her quarters could wait. This was more important.
