Personal History Born and raised on Earth Colony II (Or “Ectu” as the locals call it), David is the second of five children. His father is a professor of mathematics, and his mother is a marine biologist.

He found an early talent with math and thought he would follow in his father’s footsteps into academia. That changed in his 7th year of grade school when he and his friends went camping. The first night out, they’d covered a lot of distance, but realized their compass was malfunctioning and they had no idea where they were. Their emergency communicator was not working either, and they were effectively stranded. While they had some supplies, they wouldn't last the few days it would be until a search was called for and conducted. While they debated about which way to go. David laid on the ground looking at the sky as the stars appeared. He started comparing them to what he saw from home, and realized relatively where they were. He stood up and told the others to follow him and set out into the night. They returned home safely and he began taking more interest in how to get from A to B.

When he was old enough, he decided if Starfleet was going to blaze new trails, he wanted to be the one to chart them and see what was out there. He applied to the academy at sixteen during a recruitment push and began studying astronavigation.

Upon graduation in 2278, he was assigned to the USS Renown. A cocky, young Ensign, he quickly had the smarm smacked out of him by the reality of shipboard service. He'd bumped elbows with half the crew and found that the smart-ass joviality that made his classmates laugh wasn't working in a ship environment.

Fortunately for him, the ship's First Officer was a fellow mapper and took him under her wing. She helped mold him into a respectable officer and in turn, he looked at her as a mentor and a friend. He valued her advice and guidance and, although he would never admit it to just anyone, was eternally grateful for what she'd done for him. In return, he gave her something he rarely gave to anyone: unwavering trust and loyalty.

After reaching the rank of Lieutenant, he was offered a position of Chief Navigator on the USS Lexington. At T'kal's insistence, he accepted the position and stepped further out into the Federation.

His time on the Lexington let him catch the eye of a local Fleet Admiral who decided to promote Erickson to Lieutenant Commander, and put him on special assignment. Now stationed at a Starbase, he still got to fly around mapping the local sectors, and be home for dinner every night. It was somewhat interesting, but after a couple years, the same sector of space was wearing thin.
